For 50 years, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, known as Jazz Fest, has celebrated the city’s musical roots while also featuring some of the biggest musicians of the twentieth and twenty-first century. Here are a few performance highlights from the past decade.
Simon and Garfunkel
Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon thrilled their fans by announcing that they would resume touring for the first time in five years. Unfortunately, the duo had to postpone the tour as Garfunkel suffered a vocal paresis, but they managed to amaze their fans with a fantastic performance on April 24, 2010. Some of the songs they performed included “America,” “I Am a Rock,” “Keep the Customer Satisfied,” “A Hazy Shade of Winter,” and “Keep Slidin’ Away.”
During her debut performance at Jazz Fest in 2014, the Grammy Award-winning singer entertained her fans with jazz, blues, and soul music. Additionally, Aguilera, who was pregnant at the time, amazed the audience by dancing as she performed her upbeat songs, including “What A Girl Wants,” “Beautiful,” “Lady Marmalade,” “Ain’t No Other Man,” and “Beautiful.” She even included fun, eclectic covers like “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin, “The Thrill is Gone” by B.B King, and “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5.
This performance on May 2, 2015, became one of the most historic performances at Jazz Fest as the Acura Stage field was jam-packed two hours before the performance even started. Sir Elton did not disappoint his fans as his setlist consisted of renowned songs like “Crocodile Rock,” “Daniel,” “Your Song,” and “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues.”
Attendees of the 2019 Jazz Fest witnessed an energetic performance by this phenomenal singer, dancer, and songwriter from the Ivory Coast. Dressed in traditional attire with her hair covered in cowrie shells, the musician performed modernized African pop with her airy voice accompanied by guitar.
