Fête des Fromages returns to New Orleans for a second year with a full lineup of cheesy samples, craft cocktails, live music, and activities. Touted as the country’s largest cheese festival, this year’s event takes place on Saturday, November 16 on the grounds of the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Guests can enjoy unlimited samples prepared by more than 150 artisan cheesemakers from around the world. Relax on the lawn of the Old U.S. Mint, listen to local musicians, and watch as chefs battle on stage to crack giant wheels of cheese.
The VIP Experience
For the real cheese fanatics, VIP tickets come with extra perks and access. VIP ticket holders get early entrance to the festival at 11 a.m. to enjoy time with the cheesemakers before the crowds arrive. They can also relax in the new and improved outdoor VIP lounge with food, swag, and a complimentary bar. As an added perk, the first 200 VIPs can book a 45-minute cheese and beverage pairing class during the festival. VIP ticket options include the Cheese Boss for $150 or the Cheese Fanatic for $130. General admission tickets cost $35.
Cheese Wheel Cracking
Though the unlimited samples might seem like the main attraction, the cheese wheel cracking contest could steal the show. Dan Stein and Mason Hereford, two acclaimed restauranteurs, will face off to see who can crack a giant 80-pound wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano first. Dan Stein is the owner of Stein’s Market and Deli, a local favorite for deli sandwiches, cheese, meats, and craft beers. He challenges Mason Hereford, the owner of Turkey and the Wolf, a sandwich bistro that was ranked the best new restaurant in America by Bon Appetite in 2017. The winner will be named the 2019 King of Cheese.
An Expanded Event Lineup
The fun doesn’t end with the festival. This year’s festivities include even more ways to get cheesy in the Big Easy. Guests can purchase separate tickets for Fromage à Trois: Cheese, Chefs & Cocktails. This intimate event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, November 15 at The Cellar on St. Louis. Guests will sample 15 cheese-centric small plates prepared by local chefs and then vote for their favorite dish. They can also enjoy complimentary cocktail samples and let loose on the dance floor with music courtesy of DJ El Camino. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased separately from the festival or as a part of the Cheese Boss VIP package.
